1963 ജൂൺ 19-ന് അന്നത്തെ ദുബായ് ഭരണാധികാരി ഷെയ്ഖ് റാഷിദ് ബിൻ സയീദ് അൽ മക്തൂം സ്ഥാപിച്ച നാഷണൽ ബാങ്ക് ഓഫ് ദുബായ് (NBD) എന്ന പേരിലാണ് ഈ ബാങ്ക് ആരംഭിച്ചത്. ദുബായിൽ സ്ഥാപിതമായ ആദ്യത്തെ ദേശീയ ബാങ്കായിരുന്നു ഇത്. 2007 മാർച്ച് 6-ന് നാഷണൽ ബാങ്ക് ഓഫ് ദുബായ്, എമിറേറ്റ്സ് ബാങ്ക് ഇന്റർനാഷണലുമായി (EBI) ലയിച്ച് എമിറേറ്റ്സ് NBD എന്ന പേര് സ്വീകരിച്ചു. 2007 ഒക്ടോബർ 16-ന് എമിറേറ്റ്സ് NBD-യുടെ ഓഹരികൾ ദുബായ് ഫിനാൻഷ്യൽ മാർക്കറ്റിൽ (DFM) ഔദ്യോഗികമായി ലിസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്തു. 2012 ഡിസംബർ 1-ന് ദുബായ് ബാങ്കിനെ എമിറേറ്റ്സ് NBD ഏറ്റെടുത്തതും ബാങ്കിന്റെ വളർച്ചയിൽ നിർണ്ണായകമായി.
